Blue Glass African Trade Beads with Scarabs

The many strands of this necklace suggest the equally countless strands of beaded jewelry worn by people in central Africa.  Africa speaks through the blue glass trade beads, rare millefiore trade beads and West African brass beads, but the many faience scarabs would suggest Egypt perhaps.  The strings of beads with the charms and scarabs hanging free of the bound strands are shamanistic, each strand ending in a charm or scarab for the wearer’s protection and good luck.  The overall look is strongly tribal with overtones of other cultures, the wearer’s map of the world.
